Water sports in Harbour Island Bahamas

tourists lounge at Harbour Island MarinaJust about anything you want to do in the water is available in Harbour Island. The 3-mile pink sand beach on the Atlantic side is buffered by a reef that makes swimming especially inviting. Several uninhabited islands within an hour offer perfect spots for fantasy picnics. And for scuba buffs, the world famous Current Cut off neighboring Eleuthera offers one of the world's best spots for a high-speed drift dive. Of course for some folks, the favored water sport is shown in the photo at right, taken at Harbour Island Marina.

Ocean Fox Dive Shop

Jef Fox is a longtime presence on the local dive scene, and his operation is currently run out of the Harbour Island Marina at the south end of the Island. Jef offers scuba, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, and equipment rental.

Valentines Dive Center

Located at Valentine's Marina just a few blocks south of Government Dock, the dive center offers a creative array of ways to splash around: snorkeling scuba, reef running on underwater scooters as well as classes in the pool and a special "Bubblemaker" program of fun and games in the pool with scuba equipment.

Lilshan's Water Sports

Devon Stuart offers skiing, scuba, snorkel, and jetskii--solo or with a guide and teacher. He also rents boats, kayaks, waterskis and other equipment. Find him at the ramp just south of Valentines or via his Lil Shan's website.

Boatmen and rentals

experienced boaters of Harbour islandThe island has several experienced local boatmen eager to share their knowledge of the delights of local waters. Ask at the dock for Reggie Johnson, "Uncle Sam" Higgs, or Big Red.

Bonefishing

The inedible but energetic bonefish is considered one of the world's best sport fishes, and the shallow waters off Harbour Island offer some of the best environments for matching wits with them. Stop to talk to Joe Cleare, Vincent, Stewart, or Stanley Johnson. Some of these guides may be booked up a year in advance.

Adventure touring on Eleuthera

Just a ferry-ride away, nearby Eleuthera offers surfing, hiking, beachcoming, kayaking on hidden lagoons, and more. Bahamas Adventures is one group that creates adventure packages that can include camping on the beach.
