December 2000:
Town launches Christmas "Spaceship"

Christmas "spaceship" in Harbour Island BahamasHarbour Island decks out for the Christmas and Junkanoo season. By the first week of December homes and businesses were showing signs of the season.

The tree lighting ceremony at the Administrator's residence December 10 featured caroling by the interfaith community choir and a countdown to the big moment of lighting the "tree" designed by Harvey Roberts which was actually a tall pole topped by a star and multiple strands of lights.

Administrator Johnson got a good laugh from the crowd by saying his first sight of the plan for this arrangement looked to him like "the Christmas spaceship."

Welcoming remarks were also made by Community Council members Daryl Johnson, Harvey Roberts, and Nora Albury. Curtlin Johnson said the opening and closing prayer.
